passed away in February 2009. Bia was on the HTA board for many years, and her family contributed enormously to our project. She is greatly missed by all.

A special honor was given in naming the evening’s first artist award after founding CAB member Adriana Diaz, for her unyielding support of HTA. The recipient of the Adriana Diaz Award was Lilia Reynoso. Seven of the eight winning artists were in attendance, with only Jane Neilson absent, and each had a moment to explain their art to the crowd and receive their gift certificates.

Closing out the night was the amazing Ollin Anahuac Aztec Dance group, led by the sister of artist Lilia Reynoso, and including Lilia herself. The group’s breathtaking costumes (as seen in photos below) added a flourish of shifting shapes to their dances, and the drumming resonated through the floor and up through the bottoms of each person’s feet.

After an event like this, it’s important to do two things:

  1. 1)Give Thanks!
To: Bill & Stephanie of the Season of Us, providing beautiful entertainment; Lucas and all the staff of OACC; to the staff of the Restaurant Peony; the unstoppable volunteers (Faraj Fayad and Carlos and former BOD Larry Williams); and the CAB members (Adriana Diaz, Mona Reeva, Cecile Earle, Beth McCoy, Sonya Finley, Xuan-Vu Nguyen and Annie Bacon).

  2. 2)Look Forward!
Up next for HTA is getting these amazing designs out into the community. Plans are already in action to have two of the pieces up by June! More details soon. As always the Roving Art Show will be roaming onward, and we’ll be keeping you up to date on where it’s been with our newsletter!

We all believe that each Call for Art is the best one yet, and this is no exception. We are overwhelmed with delight and anticipation as the real work now begins!
